The NPE Fund Application is open and reviewed on a rolling basis. Access the application here.
Program Overview
The GSG Neuropsychological Evaluation (NPE) Fund provides grants of up to $600 to graduate students undergoing an NPE. NPEs are used to diagnose many mental health disorders and learning disabilities. These diagnoses are required for obtaining classroom accommodations that are critical for student success. You can find more information about NPEs here.
Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. Students are encouraged to apply once they have an estimated cost of evaluation. GSG will hold the funds for approved applications until the NPE has been completed and the final bill has been issued. Reimbursements for NPEs in the current academic year are also eligible.
Questions and concerns about the fund or general NPE questions can be sent to our Director of Accessibility Affairs at gsgaxaf@usc.edu. Questions about fund disbursements can be directed to our Director of Grants at gsgtgea@usc.edu.
Program Eligibility
Qualifying Expenses
The applicant should provide a brief description of how the funds will be used. Qualifying expenses are as follows:
Multiple applications may be submitted by the student, but the total amount awarded in any given academic year may not exceed $600.
Other Funding Sources
In order to maximize the fund and benefit as many students as possible, we ask that the GSG NPE Fund be secondary to any other funding sources that an applicant may obtain for the same evaluation.
MediCal does not cover NPEs and the out-of-pocket cost to students with MediCal will likely exceed $600. We encourage these students to explore the USC Kortschak Center for Learning and Creativity’s Psychoeducational Assessment resources and funds. GSG is happy to help connect students with the team at Kortschak. Please email Aisling O'Reilly, GSG Director of Accessibility Affairs, at gsgaxaf@usc.edu for more information.
Program Limitations
The GSG NPE Fund provides awards of up to $600. Students are eligible to receive a maximum of one award per academic year. Multiple applications may be submitted by the student, but the total amount awarded in any given academic year may not exceed $600.
Review and Approval Procedures
Reviews will be conducted on a rolling basis by a committee of at least two graduate students. Incomplete or incorrect applications will be returned to the applicant for corrections. Questions about applications and approvals can be directed to Aisling O'Reilly, GSG Director of Accessibility Affairs, at gsgaxaf@usc.edu.
Once an application is approved, it will be submitted to the university for disbursement. Please note that this process happens the first week of every month, and that once GSG submits the information to University Finance, we have no control over when and how grants are processed. On average, grants will be disbursements to awardees within 4-6 weeks of submission. Questions about disbursements can be directed to Ariel Shi, GSG Director of Grants, at gsgtgea@usc.edu.
The GSG Neuropsychological Evaluation (NPE) Fund is made possible by the USC Graduate Student Government (GSG) and is funded through the Graduate Student Programming Fee. GSG is responsible for reviewing applications and processing direct deposits to award recipients.
