Mission
The purpose of this organization is to explore and promote academic and career issues related to the field of American Studies and Ethnicity, and to help those interested in the field get to know one another better outside the classroom. The ASE Club will focus on bringing a sense of community to the ASE department by: a) a semester-long focus project that includes elements of service, analysis, and a final presentation; b) planning events for undergraduate students, graduate students, and faculty; c) providing opportunities for undergraduates to become more involved in our surrounding community and organizations; e) contacting ASE graduates and chart their progress to potentially invite them back to events as speakers and/or social events/roundtables; f) and finally facilitating close-knit relationships with the faculty, graduate students, and undergraduates.

Democracy Watch is a student organization dedicated to promoting democracy abroad. We provide support to our international partner organizations and shine a spotlight on regions where democracy is backsliding, as well as on local democracy defenders. Democracy Watch's members come from a variety of academic backgrounds.

Mission
Generations United is a program that strives to close the gap between our older and younger generations while working to address the issue of senior loneliness and isolation through interactions in the form of phone calls, emails, or letters that create a trusting friendship between both groups. The adolescents who choose to take part in the program are trained by a former college psychologist professor in the art of conversation and active listening, a skill that is fading due to technology, before they are paired up with a senior citizen to begin their calls. These interactions promote a connection and friendship between the two parties.

Our members are taught to promote empathy and understanding through multiple training sessions while building strong, trusting relationships with these seniors. These members are able to improve the quality of life for seniors through conversation while they gain invaluable knowledge about life from the experiences that seniors share with them.

Imagine a classroom without markers, pens, and whiteboards. Imagine a classroom without questions, without aspirations, without free thought. This is no way to receive a good education, yet it’s a problem facing many students both domestically and internationally.

When underprivileged students are funneled through educational programs without opportunities to express, design and wonder, it doesn’t just hurt the students, but also make the entire society out of balance - poor people become more poor and rich people become more rich. Especially nowadays people are becoming more connected and if many individuals aren’t receiving a proper education, everyone is disadvantaged by the out of balance socio-economical statuses. That’s why it should disturb us when we find out about children that have never once seen a highlighter or challenged to think outside of the box.

And this is the problem that ICI sets out to remedy. ICI is a largely student-run organization that aims to teach students essential skills for a rapidly changing world. Equipped with school supplies, student mentors adept in a variety of fields ranging from robotics to writing teach other students the skills required to think big. ICI has visited many schools both down the road and on other continents. By providing resources to learn and grow we hope to not only empower the student, but also his or her classroom, community and beyond. Education is known to be a fundamental building block of the future.

Unfortunately for us here at ICI, finding student mentors or volunteers able to travel to rural locations can be difficult. That’s why we need your help. Any contribution helps, whether it’s an afternoon or a weeklong trip abroad. We need both supplies and manpower, so please consider joining our efforts. They need us. The world needs us. We need us.

Our Collegiate Council of LULAC is dedicated to advancing the educational attainment, political influence, and the civil rights of Latinos through impactful community service projects. The League of United Latin American Citizens is the oldest Latino civil rights organization in the United States, and our Council seeks to carry on their legacy by mobilizing and serving our local community. Our primary goal is to address educational disparities and provide resources to public schools and nonprofits that allow students to strive academically. In addition, we aim to promote civic engagement by spreading awareness about issues facing Latinos, increasing voter registration, and hearing paths to success from empowering Latino speakers. We aim to provide USC students with access to career advancement opportunities, provided by LULAC National such as invitations to National LULAC conferences and the ability to apply for internships and scholarships.
