Fetal Development

From 4 weeks after conception, the embryo forms separate areas that will form the head, abdomen, chest, and organs, and buds for the arms and legs will grow. At 5 weeks (22 days) and as early as 16 days, there is a heartbeat

3 Months

When it is 12 Weeks, the fetus is around 2 inches long and can move by itself. A heartbeat can be audible, and sex organs are identifiable.

5 Months

20 Weeks is when the fetus is around 6 inches long. The baby can move their facial muscles, suck their thumb, and yawn.

7 Months

28 Weeks is when the baby is about 2.5 pounds. If born prematurely, it has a good chance of survival.

9 Months

36 weeks is when the baby revolves itself to be head first into the pelvis.

2 Months

At 6 weeks, the fetus has a response to touch, as seen in the attached video. The fetus is around a half-inch at 8 weeks. Facial features, such as the ears and eyelids, are developing, and so are fingers and toes.

4 Months

The fetus has distinct facial features, and fingers and toes have fingernails at 16 weeks. It is around 4.5 inches long.

6 Months

24 Weeks means the baby can weigh 1.4 lbs and have a response to sounds. (The baby can even develop hiccups!) The inner ear canals are also developed.

8 Months

At 32 weeks, the baby is around 4 lbs. Women are primed to start producing milk for their baby.

Birth

Full-term birth can occur anywhere between 38-42 weeks. (Most are delivered before 42). Congratulations on your new baby!
