About Viterbi Impact

Viterbi Impact connects USC Viterbi students to volunteer opportunities through the Viterbi K-12 STEM Center and local community organizations. From helping youth develop a passion for STEM to tree planting projects in the inner city.

This program is open to all eligible individuals. The Viterbi School of Engineering operates all of its programs and activities consistent with the University’s Notice of Non-Discrimination. Eligibility is not determined based on race, sex, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or any other prohibited factor.

Become a Viterbi Impact volunteer and inspire the next generation of engineers through the Viterbi K-12 STEM Center programs.

Volunteers must complete a Livescan fingerprint-based background check and Youth Protection training before beginning their service.

Mission Science

The Mission Science Program (MSP) is an afterschool STEM program for 3rd-5th grade students at elementary schools within the USC neighborhoods. The program involves USC students majoring in STEM facilitating hands-on, inquiry-based science and engineering activities to local youth once a week, with the support and guidance of a teacher liaison.

CS@SC

The CS@SC Summer Camps were founded as a joint effort of The Institute for Education and The USC Department of Computer Science to provide students with an early education into computer science, engineering, and applied physical science. Our mission is to provide underrepresented K12 students with an opportunity to explore topics that are not typically covered in traditional curricula, specifically topics in computer science including stand-alone programming, web development, mobile app creation, and robotics.

Career Path

A community based STEM program that exposes young people to STEM activities in non-school environments in the community and on the USC campus. Topics areas include Coding/Cyber, Automation/AI, Robotics, Environmental Science/Engineering, Economics & Rocketry (CAREER) through Projects, Activities, Thematic lessons, & Heuristics (PATH)

Building Opportunities for Teachers in Schools (BOTS)

The Building Opportunities for Teachers in Schools (BOTS) program includes monthly training sessions for LAUSD and Specialty Family Foundation teachers focused on computer science and digital literacy. USC Viterbi student assistants are available throughout the year to provide technical support. An end-of-year student showcase celebrates and highlights STEM projects created by students.
