Introducing Scholar Scope: Your Monthly AHF Newsletter

We are excited to share the very first edition of Scholar Scope, a new monthly newsletter from USC Academic Honors & Fellowships.

Our office supports Trojans in pursuing honors, scholarships, and nationally competitive fellowships, while also helping them grow as scholars, leaders, and engaged community members. Through one-on-one advising, workshops, academic events, and campus-wide collaborations, we aim to empower students to dream big, refine their goals, and pursue meaningful opportunities that align with their passions.

With Scholar Scope, we hope to extend that mission beyond individual advising sessions. Each edition will spotlight USC students making an impact, highlight open applications and upcoming deadlines, and share workshops, events, and opportunities from our office and campus partners.

Our goal is for Scholar Scope to become a trusted guide and source of encouragement, helping you explore new pathways, stay informed, and connect with a community of peers striving for excellence.

Truman Scholarship

The Truman Scholarship supports outstanding juniors who are passionate about public service and committed to making a difference through leadership, advocacy, and policy. Scholars receive funding for graduate school, mentorship, and access to a nationwide network of leaders in public service.

USC Africa Student Fund 

The USC Africa Student Fund is a scholarship intended to support undergraduate student travel to African countries for study, research, service-based learning and internships. Students who have identified a project or program are invited to apply with this funding in mind. Winners may receive full or partial funding to help cover airfare costs associated with their proposed project or program.

Applications for Winter Break and Spring travel are now being accepted.

USC Scholar Distinctions

Scholar Distinctions recognize graduating seniors who have excelled in areas such as research, leadership, service, and global engagement. These designations appear on the official transcript and diploma, honoring the breadth of achievement across a student’s USC experience. Each distinction hosts a Prize Competition and selects ten graduating seniors to receive a $10,000 prize.

If you are a senior who has made significant contributions in one or more of these areas, consider applying to graduate with distinction.

Opening Soon! Goldwater Scholarship

The Goldwater Scholarship is one of the nation’s most prestigious awards for undergraduates in the natural sciences, engineering, and mathematics. It recognizes students who demonstrate exceptional academic achievement and strong potential for research careers.

If you are passionate about scientific discovery and plan to pursue graduate study and research, this scholarship could be a great fit.

  • Curious about the USC Scholar Distinctions? Stop by our Fellowship Friday open office hour to chat with the AHF team. Bring your questions about eligibility and the application process. Stay for a few minutes or the whole session—it’s an open, drop-in space for your questions.

Grad School in the UK: Ellison Institute at Oxford
  • The Ellison Institute of Technology (EIT) provides fully-funded doctoral (DPhil/PhD) study at the University of Oxford, where students directly contribute to progressing an EIT project to solve some of humanity’s most enduring challenges.
  • Spanning AI, generative biology, pathogens, materials and devices for the life sciences, economics, correlates of immunity, and plant biology, these projects tackle global challenges through cutting-edge technology, offering graduate students the chance to collaborate with world-leading experts to develop innovative solutions.

Voyager Scholarship Winners

USC Law School Fair
  • The Law School Fair is an opportunity to connect directly with admissions officers from top law schools across the U.S.—and even one from Australia!
  • Attendees can learn about different programs and specializations, explore what qualifications law schools seek in applicants, and discover available scholarships and opportunities. The event also offers the chance to ask questions directly to the people who make admissions decisions and to take steps toward joining the schools’ candidate pipelines.
